In plain words: what data GuessGap collects, why, and how to delete it.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is GuessGap (hello@guessgap.io). For any question about your personal data, write to that address — we reply within 30 days.
2. If you play without an account
You only enter a nickname and pick an avatar. Your nickname and answers are needed only for the duration of the game. When the host ends the game, the final standings (nicknames and scores) may be saved to the host’s history. You don’t have to use your real name.
3. If you have an account
We store your email, name, sign-in method, profile photo (if you add one), the boards you create (including question pictures), your game history and results. From every hosted game (in any of the games) we keep only the final standings — nicknames, scores and places — plus, for players with an account, their places in the stats; the answers themselves are never stored. The game history also records which board was played, so you can rate it afterwards. Your rating of a board (👍 or 👎) is kept with your account until you delete it; what is public is only the NUMBER of likes a board has, never who gave them, and dislikes are not public at all. Your password is stored only as a hash — it cannot be read. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email, name and profile photo from Google. Your best solo results (Numbers, Words, Options) are shown with your name on the board’s public leaderboard. From solo we keep only your best result, not the answers themselves. If you make a board public (in any of the games), everyone in the Community sees it together with your name, including visitors without an account.
4. Emails and forms
Messages from the feedback forms (bug reports, ideas) reach us by email. We only send you transactional emails — email confirmation and password reset. No newsletters, no ads.
5. Technical data
• IP address and browser details — in server logs, for security and abuse prevention.
• Anonymous visit statistics — which pages are opened and where visitors come from. No cookies and no cross-site tracking.
• Technical error reports — so we can fix problems quickly.
6. Why and on what legal basis
We need data to run the service (account, games, boards, transactional emails) — this is performance of our contract with you. Security, visit statistics and fixing errors are our legitimate interest (Art. 6 GDPR). We don’t sell data and don’t show personalized ads.
7. Who else processes data
Only providers the service can’t run without: hosting, backup storage, email delivery, Google sign-in, visit statistics and error reports. They process data only on our instructions. Some of them may be located outside the EU — in that case data is transferred based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
8. How long we keep it
• Your account and related data — until you delete it.
• Question pictures — as long as at least one board uses them (including a copy of a public board); after that they are deleted within 3 days.
• Player data in a room — only for the duration of the game.
• Server logs — up to 14 days.
• Backups — up to 30 days, so deleted data is permanently gone from them within that period.
• Visit statistics and error reports — no longer than 6 months.
9. Your rights
You can get a copy of your data, correct or delete it, restrict or object to its processing. You can delete your account yourself in “Settings” — your boards, history and results are deleted with it. For any other requests, write to hello@guessgap.io. You also have the right to complain to a personal data protection authority.
10. Cookies
We don’t use cookies. Your browser only keeps the settings the site needs to work: signing in, language, theme, sound and getting back into a game after a page reload.
11. Children
You must be at least 16 to create an account. Anyone can play without an account. If you believe a child has given us their data, write to us and we will delete it.
12. Changes
When this policy changes, we update the date at the top of this page and describe significant changes in “What’s new”.
